Memorandum of Understanding

So far the comments appear positive, which is great. To answer a few of the questions asked. There will be a press release from the ABF in the next day or so on this issue. You will soon see cross promotion of the TBAWA and Aussie T-Ball logos on many items. TBAWA will be the primary deliverer of Tee-Ball and therefore will be promoting the Aussie T-Ball branding as well as the TBAWA logo. You may well expect to see the Aussie T-Ball logo along with the TBAWA logo on the super squad shirts this season.
I for one am looking forward to the players now viewing Teeball as the starting point with Baseball being the natural progression. One clear pathway with the children moving up WHEN THEY ARE READY whether it be at 9 or 12 years old. There will be a lot more information on this issue on the new Tee-Ball News website to be launched in October.

  1. I agree with the comment that kids should be able to progress to baseball at their own pace whether that be 9 or 12 - however it is still heartbreaking that tee-ball clubs like Wanneroo-Joondalup and Swans think it's ok for kids to progress at 13 to 15 - wake up guys - by then it is too late.

Surely there is now enough proof that kids need to play at least one season of little league. To expect kids to go from tee-ball to under 15 baseball is too big a jump and kids simply do not cope.

C'mon tee-ball clubs - with the new MOU you now have a duty to get with the program. At the very least your kids need to play little league as 12 year old if not sooner.

I'm sure baseball wa would be happy for you to enter teams yourself, so that the kids are still members of your club.

It continues to fascinate me why adults have so little faith in their own kids ability to hit a moving ball !!!!

  4. Anon - it's not about "sending" kids to baseball - it never has been. It's about promoting the pathway and then leaving it up to each player to make a choice. The frustration I have is with clubs that do not inform their players of their options and what the career pathway looks like. WJTBC clearly do not educate their members as to what the pathway looks like for their own purposes. If players are fully informed of the pathway and it is promoted as the 'preferred' option and players still elect to play u13 tee-ball I have no issue with that.

And John - given you are talking U14 baseball that must have been some years ago now - and if you are the John from Swans then the comment in my first post holds true - why does your club not run its own baseball teams. There is no rule that says the kids have to go somewhere else to play baseball if you offer it at your club - just look at Roleystone, Melville Districts, Forest Lakes, Kenwick, North Coast, AK Strikers etc etc etc - tee-ball clubs that now have baseball teams.

(I'll try to spell my own name right this time too - lol).

  5. I am a part of the SDTBA, have been since I was a child; and I am also a Physical Education teacher.
I have no problem at all with kids leaving Teeball to go to Baseball, Softball, Cricket or any other sport they would like to try.
I encourage kids to progress their skills to help them with the transition to whatever sport they would like to do once they decide to leave Teeball.
I don't really like the idea of kids above U13s playing Teeball, as I believe as a Phys Eder kids skills should have progressed enough.
However, if that if a club wide decision to do that, I cannot go against that. And if it keeps them engaged in Physical Activity rather than on the couch or the street-that is what sport is all about.
I would really appreciate people getting facts correct prior to publically writing something in this forum. You clearly have no idea what we have tried to do in the past.

  6. Hey anonymous above, I was also part of the SDTBA having had two kids go through the club and I agree wholeheartedly with Joseph. Whilst you might be happy for kids to go on and play baseball or softball or whatever, our club has done nothing to promote anything. Somehow families are just supposed to know that softball and baseball are options after tee-ball. Why don't we tell our people what they can go on to and do stuff that will help them in that process. Our boy did not start playing baseball until he was 13 and that continues to be something I regret, but how was I to know any better?
We cannot simply sit back, just run tee-ball and expect that any sort of transition will occur. I would love the club to take some responsibility to ensure the kids do move on to something beyond tee-ball as early as they are capable of doing so as I am sure you will agree the kids do end up finishing tee-ball at 13 and then most of them doing nothing anyway.
As a phys ed teacher, I would hope you would like to see these kids still playing a diamond sport when they are 40 and not end at 13 as most of the kids do now.
Otherwise, what is the point of the club existing - kids play tee-ball form 6 to 13 and then nothing?
I will forever resent the decision of the club at the time my kids played for not giving me all the information I needed to make proper decisions for my kids.

  7. Hey this idea just might solve the issue of not forcing kids up to baseball / softball and letting them decide when they are ready, that in order for a teeball club to BE INVITED TO COMPETE at the State Championships they first must demonstrate they have a formal affiliation or at best an M.O.U with a local baseball / softball club. This will hopefully ensure that teeball clubs who have no real interest in the kids or for that matter the sports true development become extinct.

  8. Hello would you mind sharing which blog platform you're working with? I'm planning to
start my own blog soon but I'm having a tough time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I'm looking
for something unique. P.S Sorry for getting off-topic but I
    had to ask!
